So. I've been in sales for 16 plus years and I'm currently unemployed. Laid off by a company that didn't believe that a sales team drives sales. After I left they decided to make the frikkin receptionist answer inbound calls and give here a (get this) $25 spiff for each new account. Jeezus. No respect for three years of industry specific experience and knowledge.
I have been considering a number of interim jobs, but mostly want to be self- employed again. I was mainly thinking along the lines of sales consulting. I have the skills to train and manage sales teams and hope to get a gig locally before I move to Houston next month. I have a standing job offer in Houston, but it's outside sales, which I consider an old- hat, used up waste of a sales pro's time and energy. Windshield time, time waiting on clients... it's BS in my view.
I have had my best success on the phone and through internet sales- mass (opt- in) emails and follow up with past clients. A good website with good follow up is great, and I have had a historical close rate of over 30% of leads. I think that's pretty darn good. But like I said, I really want to get into private consulting. Anyone with a similar drive or goal, please comment back, lets talk.
